What I Played in March 2025

Posted on 2025.04.30

It’s time for another month-in-review! If there’s anything special about this month is that I’ve rediscovered my love for multiplayer games! Being more active online has allowed me to meet really cool people from all over the world and play games with them. And I did a lot of that this month! Anyway, without further ado, here are the games I played in March 2025, in no particular order.

Splatoon 3

This month I made a truly groundbreaking discovery: Splatoon is more fun when playing together. This is the first time in months where I’ve been motivated to play the game outside of big events like Splatfests and Big Runs, and it’s all due to the fact that I’ve been sharing the experience with friends and acquaintances. Being able to share the triumphs makes them so much more rewarding, and being able to share the frustrations makes me take them less personally. Not to mention that playing this game over comms adds another layer that’s not present when playing solo. It’s like a completely different game, and it really makes me wonder what the heck I’ve been doing for the past 800 hours I’ve poured into this game (over a thousand hours if you count Splatoon 2 which I also played exclusively solo). But it’s probably best to not dwell on that. Instead, I’m just gonna focus on enjoying this potentially new era of the game for me :).

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

Like Splatoon 3, this is another game I played quite a bit with other people, and again, it was super fun. Mario Kart is always fun.

Super Mario Party Jamboree

I also played this a bit with other people! Sadly I’m still a bit mixed with this game, but I had fun regardless since I was not playing alone.

tetr.io

Guess what? Another game I played with other people! And it was an absolute blast! Unlike the other games, there was a bit of a skill gap in my favor (whoops…), but despite the advantage we all still had laughs and good times. Anyway, this is the last game I played multiplayer in this list, let’s move on.

Tetris 99

Speaking of Tetris, a Xenoblade X theme for this game was released and so I played to grab it. As someone who has never played a Xenoblade game, the only thing I have to say is: the music is FIREEEE!!! Also I got my 69th first place win :3

Tetris Effect: Connected

Continuing with Tetris, I played more of this game. Are you surprised at this point? Anyway I got 1000 points in the Purify game mode, that’s pretty cool I think.

Balatro

I played more of this game. Again, what else did you expect? Only thing of note I think is that I made Campfire work for the first (and likely only) time. It’s busted on Gold Stake since you can buy rental jokers and instantly sell them with no net loss.

Super Mario 3D World

One of the things in my bucket list is to eventually 100% every mainline Super Mario game. While thinking about the games I’ve beaten and the ones I haven’t, I got reminded of this game. Super Mario 3D World is my favorite 3D Mario game, and it’s one of the games I’ve been super close to completing. All I had left was beating every level with every character and doing all of World Crown. I got the urge to return right away, but I found it a bit difficult to get accustomed to the controls and physics again so I decided to start a new save file. I beat the game soon after :) (like my 4th or 5th time doing so). So after doing that, did I immediately return to my main save file to continue my 100% journey? No :). That would have to wait a few more weeks for some reason…

Animal Crossing: New Leaf

I played this game a bit more but it’s clear I'm slowly starting to fall off. Regardless of whether I keep playing or not, I really really really enjoyed my time with this game :3

Taiko no Tatsujin: Don to Katsu no Jikū Daibōken

I finally used my modded 3DS for something other than ACNL! I used to play my first ever Taiko no Tatsujin game. I’ve known about the series for a while but this is my first time actually playing it with my own hands. And I love it! Maybe it’s because I’m an actual drummer but this rhythm game scratches an itch I didn’t know I have. Also a lot of my drumming skills carried over too since this is a percussion-based rhythm game, so stuff like alternating hands was very natural. I might be a Taiko fan now…

Rhythm Tengoku

With the announcement of Rhythm Heaven Groove, my Rhythm Heaven hype is back in action! I will be aiming to do a full series 100% completion, and of course that starts with Tengoku! I decided to play this on my modded 3DS and it was great. I managed to get all 48 medals in (almost) a single day (i was busy the first day). Something that surprised me is how easy this game was compared to its sequels, though I don’t know if that’s due to the game itself or because of my experience with the Rhythm Heaven series. Regardless, the game was neat and quite charming, despite lacking the polish and quality seen in the future games. By the time I went for every Perfect, the month rolled over to April so I won’t be talking about it here.
