What I Played in September 2025

It’s time for another month-in-review! Gonna be honest, not much happened here. First of all, I was still getting accustomed to my new job so I did not have a lot of energy for new things, and second of all I’m feeling too tired as of writing these to write a lot about them. So this one will be short and simple. Without further ado, here are the games I played in September 2025, in no particular order.

Splatoon 3

This was the month’s main game again! I played it for so many hours, it’s just very easy to play a game you’re already familiar with and know you’ll enjoy. Anyway, a couple of fun things happened. First, Splatoon 3’s anniversary! I can’t believe it’s been 3 years since this game came out and irreversibly altered the course of my life (for the better at least). I cannot be thankful enough. On that day, I reached level 100 in-game. Very fitting to reach three digits in the third anniversary of the third game :>. Also, a Big Run in Um’ami Ruins occured! In this one I achieved the huge feat of getting all the way to Eggsecutive VP 999. I fought a couple of Hazard Level MAX’s on the way, and the most insane thing is that my last shift ended with a HLM Triumvirate victory. I actually got my first ever one of those at EVP 920. Ended up with a high score of 173 eggs and getting that helicopter decoration. Lastly, after playing this damn game for 3 years I FINALLY HIT THE GOLD JACKPOT ON THE SHELL-OUT MACHINE!!! WOOOOOO!!!!

Kirby’s Avalanche

I really need to get into Kirby more, so I decided to play one of the Kirby games on NSO! I sure hope this is a fun platformer and not some Puyo Puyo 1 reskin! Wait…

Okay jokes aside, I just played this cuz I thought it would be funny in the moment, I knew what I was getting myself into. What I DIDN’T expect is that this game has some really out of pocket dialogue and also that Puyo 1’s gameplay kinda sucks (never played it before). It has no countering and it’s always 5 colors, it was just very odd. Regardless, I played it through the end, albeit with a bit of rewind. Forgive me!

Super Puyo Puyo 2

Since I played a Puyo 1 reskin I had to play Puyo 2 again. And yeah this one’s so much better. I still don’t like how midway through the main mode you go back to 5 colors again though, it makes the game much more harder than it needs to be, but whatever. That was a fun hour or two!

Puyo Puyo Tetris

Continuing the Puyo chain (heh): After nearly 5 years, I revisited this game to play multiplayer with friends! I got destroyed in Swap mode a lot before I slowly recaptured my Puyo Puyo skills (I’m definitely a Tetris guy). They’re still not good but they’re decent enough that I was able to defend myself and put up a fair fight. My strat basically boiled down to do decently enough in Puyo to survive until the Swap, then go ALL out on Tetris as it was my only window to properly attack. Quite fun! I also played a couple of Tetris vs Tetris matches and remember how awful the game balancing is… Line clears don’t stall garbage and combos get rewarded wayyy too much. It was neat revisiting it but I don’t miss some of the jank. But hey, that jank is kinda what makes this game so charming.

Tetris 99

And back to the Switch, I also played this again. Unsurprisingly.

Drag x Drive

I played a couple of matches of this one day. Not much to say, it’s still just a fine game with not much going on.

F-Zero GX

I played this online via NSO and the experience was surprisingly smooth. The game chugged at first but at one point it just stopped. Anyway, this was kinda my first time playing this aaaaand I suck LOL. At least I got a couple of laughs out of falling off the map a lot.

Zuma Deluxe

Fun fact, this was my childhood game and probably one of the first video games I ever played! I bought it on Steam years ago and replayed it to relive some childhood memories, and I once again came back to it randomly when looking for a quick game to play. This game will forever be special to me.
